1914-1920 WWI War Medal Japan Taisho 3-9 War Medal
This is a Japan 1914-1920 War Medal, also known as the Taisho 3-9 War Medal (大正三九年従軍記章), awarded to Japanese military personnel who served between 1914 and 1920, covering multiple campaigns during World War I and the Siberian Intervention from 1918 to 1922 aimed at the Soviet Bolsheviks during the Russian Civil War that followed the October 1917 revolution.
Medal established on November 6, 1915 by Imperial Edict No. 203 to commemorate Japanese participation in World War I.
Obverse: The obverse side of the medal features two crossed flags: the Imperial Chrysanthemum standard on the left and the Japanese national flag (Hinomaru) on the right. Above the flags is the Imperial chrysanthemum crest, symbolizing the emperor and the nation's military honor. Below the flags is a floral arrangement of chrysanthemum and paulownia leaves, both traditional symbols of the Japanese imperial family.
Obverse legend: The bar across the top of the ribbon reads "従軍記章" (Jūgun Kishō), translating to "War Medal."
