Obverse: The front of the banknote features a portrait of the Flemish composer Roland de Lassus, also known as Orlande de Lassus, in a detailed frame on the right. The denomination "VINGT FRANCS" (Twenty Francs) is printed in red on a decorative background to the left of the portrait, along with the issuing date "03-04-56." The top of the note reads "ROYAUME DE BELGIQUE" (Kingdom of Belgium). The serial number "W13 953748" is printed twice, once on the top right and once on the bottom left. The text at the bottom left states "LA LOI PUNIT LE CONTREFACTEUR" (The law punishes counterfeiters).

The serial number is repeated on the reverse. The text at the bottom left, written in Dutch, states "DE NAMAKER WORDT DOOR DE WET GESTRAFT" (The law punishes counterfeiters). At the top, "KONINKRIJK BELGIË" (Kingdom of Belgium) is printed.
