This vintage postcard depicts "Les Rampes et le Boulevard de la République" in Algiers, Algeria, during the early 20th century. The bustling scene captures the grandeur of colonial architecture with rows of arcades, multi-level buildings, and vibrant market activity.
The reverse side includes a handwritten message in elegant French script:
Gaston.
(Translation: Algiers, March 12
Dear Uncle and Aunt,
I boarded on March 8th in Marseille on a cargo ship headed to Sfax. The journey has been so delightful; it’s not cold at all, quite the contrary. We had beautiful weather throughout the crossing. We arrived in Algiers on the 10th and will leave soon for Tunis and Sfax. The city is very picturesque, and the Arabs are pleasant to observe!
With all my love,
Gaston.)
