Obverse legend: The inscription around the scene reads in German: "GLEICHWIE MOSES IN DER WILDERNES DIE SCHLANGE ERHOHET HAT ALSO MUSS DES MENSCHEN SOHN ERHOHET WERDEN," which translates to "Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up."
