This postcard showcases the Ancienne Chapelle de Saint-Louis in Carthage, Tunisia. Built in 1840 by the French Consul, this chapel was constructed on Byrsa Hill, where it is said that Saint Louis (King Louis IX of France) died during the Eighth Crusade in 1270. The chapel served as a memorial and place of pilgrimage, commemorating Saint Louis and marking France’s early historical ties to Tunisia. In 1930, the building was transformed into the Acropolium, a venue dedicated to Tunisian culture and history.
The postcard presents a picturesque view of the chapel’s Neo-Gothic architecture, complete with detailed carvings, ornate pillars, and surrounding tombs.
The reverse side is unused, showing the classic correspondence and address fields, with a mark indicating publication by "Imp. ELD, Paris."
