Paris, France – Tomb of Emperor Napoleon Postcard
This vintage postcard presents a striking view of the Tomb of Emperor Napoleon I inside Les Invalides, Paris. The monumental sarcophagus, made of red quartzite, rests on a green granite pedestal within a circular crypt, surrounded by white marble statues of Napoleonic victories. Above, the ornate dome and grand architectural details of the Dôme des Invalides frame the tomb, adding to its solemn magnificence.
Napoleon’s remains were brought back to France from Saint Helena in 1840 and interred here in 1861. Les Invalides, originally built as a military hospital in the 17th century, remains one of Paris’s most significant historical landmarks.
