This postcard presents a view of the Pensionnat Saint-Joseph, a historic Catholic boarding school in Saint-Omer, France. The imposing brick façade, adorned with rows of tall windows, reflects the institutional architecture of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Saint-Omer has long been a center of education and religious instruction, dating back to the 7th century. The city was home to the English College of Saint-Omer, founded in 1593 to educate English Catholic exiles during the Protestant Reformation. This institution later became Stonyhurst College in England.
During World War I and World War II, Saint-Omer played a key strategic role, serving as a military base and later falling under German occupation. Many local institutions, including schools, were repurposed for wartime use.
The reverse side is blank.
