Venezia, Italy – The Golden House on the Grand Canal Postcard
This vintage postcard features the Ca’ d’Oro (Golden House), one of the most exquisite Gothic palaces on the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy. Built between 1421 and 1434 by the Contarini family, this masterpiece of Venetian Gothic architecture was originally adorned with gold leaf and polychrome decorations, giving it the name "Golden House."
Over the centuries, Ca’ d’Oro changed ownership multiple times and underwent significant restorations. In 1894, the palace was acquired by Baron Giorgio Franchetti, who meticulously restored it and transformed it into a museum. Today, it houses the Galleria Giorgio Franchetti, which displays an impressive collection of Renaissance paintings, sculptures, and decorative arts.
The reverse side is blank, with multilingual text "Cartolina postale / Carte Postale / Postkarte / Post Card", indicating its suitability for international mailing.
